Why do pc problems keep changing for no particular reason, this is a question that I found myself asking today, I have just logged on to my FTP account, (I use Filezilla, most always without any problems) but not today!
As soon as I logged on up popped a” new version available” notice, now this happens fairly often and I have become used to just clicking and updating the version installed on my pc, so that’s what I did.
Result: Filezilla tried to access my website and up popped a error notice “cannot access directory listing”, now this a new situation, never happened when previously updating.
So what to do?
Well the first thing is to plough through the help documentation supplied by Filezilla, (YAWN) not much luck there before I fell asleep.
Next Google the error notice, Ah! a forum, wow loads of people having the same problem, and some very techie answers, didn’t understand most of them, but did get a clue, FIREWALL, might have known.
So let’s have a look at that solution, now I am using Windows XP service pack 3, so click on START go to CONTROL PANEL then SECURITY CENTRE and then clicked on WINDOWS FIREWALL.
OK everything switched on, so let’s try the advanced tab, aha! RESET DEFAULTS, clicked and read the notice that appeared, clicked yes and then OK.
Let’s try Filezilla now, a new widow opens and asks if I wan’t to allow access to Filezilla, of course I do DOH! thats’s what all this has been about.
So! clicked on Site Manager where my websites are all located ready to go and VOILA! access at last.
I think I will post this on the forum, hopefully it might help others with this problem.
