Most people know that one of the keys to utilizing SEO and ranking your website in the search engines is the use of keywords. Still, there are many factors you must consider when using keywords if you want to see success. One of the elements that some people get focused is how many keywords they should target on one webpage.

It’s easy for people to want to do too much with SEO. That’s because of how easy it is to implement SEO tactics onto your website all by yourself. All you need to do is add some keywords here and there, and then viola, you will get ranked highly. Right? Well, not exactly, and the truth is that many people do more harm than good when they assume that SEO is this basic.

SEO is actually very refined. Maybe a decade ago you could get away with doing anything that was related to search engine optimization and see success. There was such little competition, and so few tried and true tactics, that anything you tried to do would help you succeed.

Today, many people practicing SEO try to target too many keywords on a single webpage. They figure, if I have 25 figures I’m trying to rank for, I should try to make every one of my web pages get ranked for all of those keywords. It’s like playing the percentages, giving yourself more options and therefore ensuring that you’ll see great results.

However, in actuality the opposite is true. More is less when it comes to SEO and the number of keywords you are trying to target. By targeting too many on a single web page, you aren’t doing anything but thinning out your focus. You’ll also likely be including so many keywords that your content will come across as spam to both the search engines and your visitors.

Knowing all of this then, what is the correct number of keywords to use on a web page? For a web page with 500 words or so, a sound strategy is to go after two or three individual keywords. For a page with less content you’ll want less keywords, and for a page with more content you can target a few additional keywords.

When you divide your keywords up onto individual pages like this for SEO, then you’ll be able to target each and every one of them more effectively. If you have 20 web pages on your site and 50 keywords, you can dedicate each page to two or three of them, expanding your scope and your presence in the search engines.

Therefore it’s important to use common sense and base your judgments according to how much content you have, and what looks natural to you as you look at your page. Remember that with SEO, most people try to do entirely way too much. Keep it simple and keep your focus to 2 or 3 keywords per web page.

If you're looking into building a career around search engine optimization and become an SEO expert, there are many things to learn.

If you’re looking into building a career around search engine optimization and become an SEO expert, there are many things to learn. While the information will be plentiful, you have to have all the knowledge, dedication, and ability to create a successful business.

There is a set of required skills and knowledge that you must have if you want to become an SEO expert. SEO means that you can provide content for businesses and other companies. If you want to provide content to companies then you need to be able to write. This requires a strong grasp on the English language. This doesn’t mean that you can speak English well but it means that you have a strong grasp for the mechanics and grammar part of the English language. A company can be ruined when the English is poorly written and if you cannot write well then you might want to consider something else. There are writing classes you can take and English courses you can take to strengthen your writing skills. This can help you if you want to focus on search engine optimization.

The internet is a very, very complex world and in order to utilize it well, you have to have a great knowledge of the search engines. This means knowing how they work with web pages, specifics of certain words, and various other scenarios. When someone creates a web page it doesn’t mean they are going to start receiving orders and making money right away. It would definitely be nice, but it doesn’t work this way. You have to take into account several back office issues in order to achieve total search engine optimization. The only way to help someone else’s website work, understands how they their website and the search engines intermingle.

Dedication is very important because when you work with companies to help them on the web by providing search engine optimization you are in charge of your own hours because you have the ability to work from home. This is why this line of work is so enticing. If you are not strong enough to be responsible and work normal hours every single day then you may have a problem. You need to be responsible and never miss a deadline for a client. It is important that you can provide the work promised and meet the expectations. Don’t get too comfortable. Create a workspace that you work in and you are comfortable.

While all of this is important, you have to have the ability to make it happen. Yes, on the surface this looks like an easy money maker, but it’s a difficult road to haul. It takes work, work, and more work in order to achieve your goals. The good news is there are millions of individuals looking for this type of help, so if you can be taught how to provide SEO services, you can expect to have plenty of job security. There is so much potential we can’t even begin to explain it, but if you take advantage of search engine optimization and make a career out it you will surely be rewarded in the end.
